20230920 – The nightmare of every navigator is to find their vessel touching the seabead. That happened in the Reykjavík approach on 10th September 2023 when the Portuges container vessel VERA D (9290177).
She was refloated few hours later but oil slick was visable after her refloatation. She was berthed in Eimskips terminal and unloaded. Following inspection she was detained by Port State Control.
Today the MSC DRAGON (9240952) was preparing towing VERA D from Reykjavík but their destination is not known but rumours says that she is heading for demolition.
VERA D has been on charter to Eimskip Iceland since September 2019 on fortnightly run between Iceland – Continent but she was arriving to Reykjavík on her voyage from Rotterdam when she ran aground near Akurey in the Reykjavík approach.
Another grounding took place on 11th September but this time in Greenland. The OCEAN EXPLORER (9883194) ran aground in Alpefjord in the East Coast. She was refloated by the fishery research vessel ‘TARAJOQ on the morning of 14th September and subsequently arrived at Reykjavik, Iceland on 17th Septemberfor PSC inspection.
The powerful fishery research vessel TARAJOQ had her first port of call in Greenland in Nuk in May 2022 and was photographed then by me.
