20221001 – In January 2021 a contract was signed between the Government of Iceland and Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) for financial support of building three new SAR vessels for the Association. Govenmental support for each vessel would be 50% of building price. In addition the insurance company Sjóvá sponsored the building programme with €980.000

After tender the Finnish yard KewaTec won the contract for three SAR vessels. The first one has been given the name ÞÓR and will be located in Westmann Islands but she arrived to Reykjavík with Eimskip’s BRÚARFOSS on September 27th but had been loaded in Aarhus Denmark. The formal delivery of ÞÓR took place in the Port of Westmann Islands 1st October.
