Evacuation drill on HERJÓLFUR

The new ferry HERJÓLFUR had call in Hafnarfjordur today, September 16th 2019, on her way to Akureyri. She entered service in end of July this year on route Westmann Isl. – Landeyjarhöfn on Iceland South Coast.

She is on her way for drydocking in Akureyri but one of her two stabilisers had leaking problem. Due to Transport Authorities requirement the crew had to launch her MES system.

As to the plan a group of 150 passenger where estimated to be evacuated but they would come from some local schools. Unfortunately only abt. 80 persons where able to join the drill.

The crew did tremendeous good job in evacuating the fixed group of passenger but only her crew of eight where sailing her for the drydock. The older ferry on the route the former HERJÓLFUR, now HERJÓLFUR III, is replaceing on the route.
