New Icelandic dredger ÁLFSNES

20220720 – The Dutch Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger GIGANTE was sold to Björgun ehf., in Reykjavik in May 2022 arriving to her new homeport under Dutch flag in mid June and renamed ÁLFSNES.

GIGANTE as ÁLFSNES in Port of Reykjavik

She will be replacing the 1969 build dredger DÍSA (IMO 7013733) and will be the most modern dredger in Iceland as she was build in 2011 in Freinaval SL, Ferrol, Spain for Drag-Norte SL, Spain flying the Spanish flag.

DÍSA has been sold and will leave the fleet of Björgun with the arrival of ÁLFSNES

It was not until 19th August that she finally could go for her first dredging assignment in Iceland when all paperwork for her flag change had taken place.

Great expectation is towards the new vessel to the company fleet wich ownes the former SELBYDYKE that was converted from general cargo to 7013733 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger in 1988 when sold to Björgun. She was then renamed SÓLEY and is still operating.

I visited the ÁLFSNES in the Port of Reykjavik just after her name change and her C/O and Captain Ægir Þór Sverrisson showed me around his vessel.
